Welcome back to Spring One!

Miss Wood and I hope you have had an amazing Christmas and New Year and we are looking forward to the year ahead.

We would like you to know that PE is now on a Monday (Dance with Amy) and Wednesday with (SCS).

Spellings and times tables will be given out on a Monday and tested on a Monday.

This Terms Overview

During this half term Class 2 will focus on the book, The Tear Thief, by Carol Ann Duffy. Looking at poetic writing, character descriptions and interesting sentence structure. There will also be a focus within reading on inference and comprehension.

This term Class Two will be investigating and exploring multiplication and division. The children will learn about division by grouping and sharing. They will use their knowledge of the 2,5 and 10 times tables to solve mathematical number sentences and reasoning questions. We will then move on to statistics, looking at pictograms, block diagrams and tally charts. Towards the end of the term we will be studying geometry.

Science this term will be looking at materials:

  • Identifying and naming a variety of everyday materials

  • Comparing the suitability of everyday materials

  • Comparing and grouping materials

Our history topic this term will be the Great Fire of London. The children will discover how the fire started, they will be sequence the main events around the Great Fire and know the impact that the fire had on modern life.

This term the children will be taught word processing and looking at internet safety.

Every Monday the children will be participating in dance with Amy and will be learning a Bollywood style choreographed routine. Wednesday will consist of the children learning with SCS.

The children will be learning composition by creating and developing musical ideas. They will also apply their knowledge and understanding when listening to a range of music.

Children will be discussing and learning about being safe in and out of school. This topic is mainly practical with the use of drama as a tool to express themselves.

The children will be using the style of Claude Monet to recreate his famous painting ‘The Woman with a Parasol’. We will be using everyday materials to create this piece of art work as a link to our science topic.

What an amazing day we had on Monday, Nick Butterworth came in to talk, draw and read with the children. We were all enthralled and had an amazing day. The children were a shining example to the school, showing Mr Butterworth how polite, kind and eager they are to learn from a famous author.

Gosfield you made us proud.

These superstars have been writing their own stories and working hard on revising their mathematics that we have learned in class. It is so nice to see their hard work and how proud they are.

I would love to see more of the children's achievements in all areas in and outside of school.

Mrs. Mitchell.

Independent Writing.

So far this week we have been working on our independent writing skills. The children are working so hard to remember all of our grammar, spellings, handwriting and sentence structure within their writing and I am so proud of them. Amazing work class two.

Just a quick note to say spellings and times table tests will now be on a Monday. Furthermore, TT Rock Stars will be up and running again asap.

Thanks, Mrs Mitchell.

Retelling the Story of The Twits.

What amazing actors Miss Wood and I have. I asked the children to be horrible like Mr. Twit, some of these pictures are so funny (my little Elsie!). We had great fun acting out the story of the Twits and then writing a reflection on how we preformed.

This inspired the children to then write some amazing stories, just like the Twits. Well done class two.

Homes and Houses

Homes and Houses 1

Miss Wood has been teaching the children all about homes and houses this term. The class have learned a vast amount about the different homes we live in and how houses have changed over the years. I did have to put this picture up as I love Noah's face in this. Can you spot him?

Well done Miss Wood, the children are loving their topic.

Amazing Mathematicians

Class Two have been working on place value this half term. We love to work practically using base ten, abacus', tens frames and counters to solve problems. The children are hard at work using our mastery approach using whole part models too.

Welcome Back to Class Two.

We hope that you have had a relaxing summer break and are ready for a fun filled exciting year of learning.

Miss Wood and I have attached our first newsletter; an overview for the coming term, as well as homework. We will also send a paper copy home for you to read at your leisure.

During the first two weeks back, we are planning a YEAR 2 parents meeting to talk through the year ahead and the KS1 (SATS) expectations. Date: TBC

PE will take place on Tuesday afternoons, therefore, please make sure that the children have a named PE kit in school by the 3rd September 2019.

We look forward to the year ahead,

Miss Mitchell and Mrs Wood.
