At Gosfield Community Primary School, we offer a curriculum which is broad, balanced and ambitious for all children, whatever their starting points. Our curriculum is carefully designed to build knowledge, understanding and skills sequentially and cumulatively as pupils progress through each Key Stage, creating high-quality experiences and opportunities which best meet the learning and developmental needs of every child in our school.

Our curriculum is underpinned by our RAISE values and our commitment to sustainability, preparing pupils not only for their next stage of education but for life as successful, independent, motivated learners and responsible global citizens.

Early Years Foundation Stage (Reception)
Our Reception class follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which provides the statutory foundation for children's learning and development. The EYFS curriculum focuses on developing strong foundations across seven areas of learning:

• Communication and language
• Physical development
• Personal, social and emotional development
• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understanding the world
• Expressive arts and design

To ensure a smooth transition and ambitious learning, our Reception pupils are also exposed to elements of our Key Stage 1 two-year rolling curriculum. This approach means that Reception children benefit from:

• Rich, engaging topics and themes that connect with older pupils' learning
• Early exposure to the breadth of the National Curriculum subjects
• A seamless transition into Year 1
• Opportunities to learn alongside and from Key Stage 1 pupils in our school community

This combined approach ensures our youngest pupils develop the essential early years foundations whilst also experiencing the exciting, knowledge-rich curriculum that will support their future learning.

Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2)
Years 1 and 2 follow the National Curriculum for Key Stage 1, building on the strong foundations established in Reception. Our curriculum ensures all pupils develop secure knowledge in reading, writing, mathematics and the wider curriculum subjects.

Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4 and 5)
Years 3, 4 and 5 follow a three-year rolling curriculum. This structure allows us to:

• Provide depth and breadth across all National Curriculum subjects
• Ensure pupils in mixed-age classes access the full curriculum
• Revisit and build upon key concepts and knowledge over time
• Create meaningful cross-curricular links and thematic learning opportunities

Each year, pupils will experience different topics and themes, ensuring they develop a comprehensive understanding of all subjects while building their knowledge sequentially and cumulatively.

Upper Key Stage 2 (Year 6)
Year 6 follows its own dedicated curriculum, specifically designed to:

• Consolidate and deepen learning from previous years
• Prepare pupils thoroughly for their transition to secondary school
• Provide focused teaching in preparation for end of Key Stage 2 assessments
• Ensure pupils leave us as confident, independent learners with the knowledge and skills they need for future success
